Making Time for Creativity
How do I put this?
I’m in this situation where I have a lot of ideas that I want to pursue. But, I’ve also had a lot of ideas in the past that have led to products that I’ve built. The longer I continue to offer those legacy products, the less time I have to build and offer new things. This is the reality of being a single-person business. It’s just me. I can’t just keep producing new ideas without dropping some of the old.
So this means that the maximalism of this past spring needs to be trimmed back so that I can do some new things. I crowed “I’m doing everything”, and while that was fun, supporting those orders restricted my ability to do new things. Having a customer demand led process means producing exactly what people want, which is good. But it also means I can’t focus on what I want to make. Selfishly, I want to decide what to make!
I’m pairing back my listings to my stock on hand so that I can produce more new ideas. Here’s what my initial stock in the shop is:
A new flat pack larger nightstand made from baltic birch that has a smooth glossy acrylic finish. Not yet named.
A full inventory of record crates, in all three styles. I’ve built a fair amount of stock so I can sell them for a while.
A pair of Chev nightstands in a new prefinished birch material.
An experimental first run of circular side tables in three styles.
A Hensikt sideboard in new prefinished material
A trio of larger flatpack nightstands made from prefinished material with a new design.
Check the shop section and see what new ideas arrive.
